Habitat: Growing in sphagnum under sparse alder, dogwood, and Acer spicatum, with balsam fir and white cedar nearby. Associates include Rubus pubescens, Trientalis borealis, a grass, Galium sp, Dryopteris sp. Ribes hudsonianum also present in area. Common in northern wet-mesic forest. Low-growing shrub with stems laying down and trailing along ground.
