Habitat: Well-established in shrub swamp dominated by Alnus rugosa and Salix discolor. Plants often inhabit low mounds, interspersed with standing water. Dark, organic muck, in moderate shade. Calamagrostis canadensis and Carex utriculata are the dominant herbs, with Saxifraga pensylvanica, Impatiens capensis, Cicuta maculata, and Aster puniceus common also. Forming dense patches. Heads with golden-yellow disks and white rays. Also forming dense patches along both sides of road.
