Habitat: Seasonally wet, prairie-like opening with small, very shallow, drying depressions, in thicket-filled Juniperus virginiana woods developed on flat dolomite pavement; soil generally reddish, silty clayey loam, extremely thin. Vegetation very low; Carex crawei and Poa compressa major dominants, Schizachyrium scoparium and Danthonia spicata locally dominant in small areas; assoc.: Fragaria virginiana, Houstonia longifolia (very abundant), Hypericum perforatum, Packera paupercula (very abundant), Ranunculus fascicularis, Rosa blanda, and Symphyotrichum oolentangiense. Abundant; forming a sward over the area; by far the largest population I've ever seen of this species..
