Habitat:
Seasonally wet, prairie-like opening in thicket-filled Juniperus virginiana woods developed on flat dolomite pavement; soil generally reddish, silty clayey loam, extremely thin. Collections from small, very shallow, drying depressions, now surprisingly wet but becoming severely dry by mid summer; bottoms mossy crusts overlying bedrock. Assoc.: Cardamine parviflora var. arenicola, Houstonia longifolia, Lobelia kalmii, Ranunculus fascicularis, & Symphyotrichum oolentangiense. Locally common.
