Mucky depression in forested wetland, dryish at this season, undoubtedly with standing water in spring or during downpours; rooted in semi-rotted organic layer. Overstory: Fraxinus nigra dominant, with F. pennsylvanica, Betula papyrifera, B. allegheniensis, Acer rubrum, and Tilia americana. Assoc. in depression one to few plants each of: Acer rubrum seedlings, Boehmeria cylindrica, Carex lupulina, Dryopteris carthusiana, Glyceria striata, Impatiens capensis, Ribes cf. hirtella, Solidago gigantea, and Thelypteris palustris, little if anything else.
