Habitat: Southern dry-mesic forest on crest of NW-facing slope above river; canopy formerly Quercus rubra-Q. alba, cut 75 years ago and now Acer saccharum-Ostrya virginiana-Carya cordiformis-Ulmus rubra, devoid of Quercus. In somewhat disturbed area along old logging road; groundlayer assoc.: Actaea rubra-white-frtd. form, Athyrium filix-femina var. angustum, Circaea lutetiana ssp. canadensis, Cryptotaenia canadensis, Dioscorea villosa, Galium concinnum, Hackelia virginiana, Podophyllum peltatum, Solidago ulmifolia, & Symphytrichum lateriflorum. Very local.
