Habitat:
Thicket-covered field (old homesite); poor dry soil (light brown, looose, fine, sandy, low in organic matter). Assoc. (around edges of colony): Poa pratensis dominant, with Bromus inermis, Euphorbia corollata, Melilotus sp., Rosa blanda, Syringa vulgaris & Verbascum thapsus. Old lanes, old plantings (Iris germanica 100 yds. away to N), and cistern cover in area. Slender crooked branching shrub, taller stems 10-15 ft., smaller ones 2-4 ft.; cor. medium-pink w/ cream-colored central spot (dark rose in bud). Branching shrub with fan-shaped crown; spreading aggressively by root suckers, forming a colony 140 ft. long X 150 ft. wide at N end and X 115 ft. at S end (main colony 110 ft. long, thinning out southward as scattered small stems 13--44 in. high).
