Habitat:
Formerly grazed (and/or cultivated?) (up to ca. 50--60 yrs. ago) wetland along tiny, straightened, W-flowing, spring-fed streamlet, supporting semi-natural, calcareous wet prairie; rich dense vegetation, sedge dominated but hardly tussocky and full of herbs. Assoc.: Eleocharis compressa, Euthamia graminifolia (abundant), Helianthus grosseserratus (abundant), Juncus dudleyi (occasional), Liatris pycnostachya (common), Lobelia spicata, Lycopus sp., Pentaphylloides floribunda, Pycnanthemum virginianum (frequent), Solidago gigantea, S. riddellii, and Schizachyrium scoparium. Rhizomes thicker than in Eleocharis compressa and achenes falling less readily than in that sp.
