Habitat: Oak woodland/black oak (Q. velutina) savanna on steep S-facing slope: assoc. trees: Ulmus sp., Quercus alba, Juglans nigra, Carya ovata; assoc. shrubs: Zanthoxylum americanum, Rubus sp.; other plants: Amorpha canescens, Aster oolentangiensis, A. sagittifolius, Aureolaria pedicularia, A. grandiflora, Eupatorium rugosum, Gnaphalium obtusifolium, Helianthemum canadense, Lechea spp., Lespedeza capitata, Polygala sanguinea, Solidago nemoralis, S. ulmifolia, Tephrosia virginiana, Viola pedata, etc. Only a few plants present; no flowers. Bedrock is St. Peter sandstone, the top capped by Galena dolomite.
