Habitat: Northern mesic forest (Acer saccharum (1 dom.)-Betula papyrifera (2 dom.), with (in order of decreasing frequency) Quercus borealis, Fagus grandifolia, & Tilia americana. N-facing wooded cliffs and boulders under Betula papyrifera & Thuja occidentalis. Associated species: Oryzopsis asperifolia, Poa saltuensis, Cares arctata, C. communis, C. convoluta, C. deweyana, C. laxiflora, Polygonatum biflorum, Smilacina racemosa, Trilium grandiflorum, Hepatica actuiloba, Anemone quinquefolia v. interior, Ribes cynosbati, Viola pubescens v. pubescens, Cornus rugosa. Abundant (the most material of this species I've ever seen in one spot. Associated with Cryptogramma stelleri, no. 11,134.
