Habitat: Hardwood forest dominated by sugar maple. Fairly dense understory of sugar maple and black ash saplings. Somewhat seasonally wet, with tip-up mound/pit microtopography. Associated species included Athyrium filix-femina, Sanguinaria canadensis, Allium tricoccum, Trillium grandiflorum, Osmunda claytoniana, Galium triflorum, Cornus alternifolia, Carex pedunculata, C. deweyana, and other Carex spp.
Occurrence Remarks: Large patch of thousands of stems.
