Habitat: On old skidder trail. Well-drained sandy soil, in nearly full sun. Plants often in openings between scattered low clumps of Corylus americana. Also with Comptonia peregrina, Carex pensylvanica, Danthonia spicata, Potentilla simplex, Arabis lyrata, and Lechea intermedia. Surrounding woods of Quercus macrocarpa, Quercus rubra, Quercus ellipsoidalis, Acer rubrum, and Pinus resinosa. Scattered colonies.
