Habitat: Extensive northern mesic hardwood forest on top of small bluff-like point of Niagara dolomite bedrock. Acer saccharum dominant, with Abies balsamea and Ostrya virginiana; understory rich. Associated species: Lycopodium annotinum, Athyrium angustum, Cystopteris fragilis v. fragilis, Poa saltuensis, P. languida, Schizachne purpurascens, Milium effusum, Carex arctata, C. deweyana, Clintonia borealis, Smilacina racemosa, Polygonatum pubescens, Trillium grandiflorum, Actaea pachypoda, A. rubra, Thalictrum dioicum, Dentaria diphylla, Streptopus roseus, Ribes cynosbati, Viola pensylvanica, Aralia nudicaulis, Osmorhiza claytonii, Galium triflorum, etc.
