Sand barrens on often-burned sand hill formed at the edge of a glacier and covered by a dry prairie groundlayer; open, very sandy ground. Assoc.: Carex siccata (very abundant), C. bicknellii, Comandra umbellata ssp. umbellata, Dichanthelium oligosanthes var. scribnerianum, Dalea candida, Helianthemum bicknellii, H. canadense, Koeleria macrantha, Lespedeza capitata, Polygala polygama, Quercus velutina grubs, Tradescantia ohiensis, and Stipa spartea (abundant). High dry center of knoll.
