Habitat: Rocky dry bluff prairie on south and southwest facing hill tops. Little disturbed and with excellent diversity. Other species found found growing with Hansen, et al 4597: Rocky dry prairie on S-facing hilltops, with: Andropogon scoparius, A. gerardii, Sporobolus heterolepis, Bouteloua hirsuta, B. curtipendula, Carex eburnea, Petalostemum candidum, P. purpureum, Muhlenbergia racemosa, M. cuspidata, Liatris cylindracea, L. aspera, Aster oblongifolius, A. ericoides, A. azureus, A. sericeus, Celastrus scandens, Euphorbia corollata, Amorpha canescens, Prunus pumila, Kuhnia eupatorioides, Coreopsis palmata, Linum sulcatum, Artemisia caudata, Solidago nemoralis, Oxybaphus hirsutus, Asclepias viridiflora, and on rock outcrops Pellaea glabella & Campanula rotundifolia. Invaders around the edges of the prairie include Populus tremuloides, P. grandidentata, Corylus americana, Betula papyrifera, Quercus borealis, & Rhus typhina.
