Habitat:
Sand barrens on often-burned sand hill formed at the edge of a glacier and covered by a dry prairie groundlayer with scattered open-grown oaks and oak grubs. Assoc.: Asclepias amplexicaulis, A. syriaca, Ceanothus herbaceus-very rare, Dalea purpurea, Helianthemum canadense, Lithospermum caroliniense, Sisyrinchium campestre, Tephrosia virginiana, etc. Extremely abundant, the groundlayer dominant over the whole knoll. 980--1000 ft. elev.
