Habitat: Northern mesic forest, Acer saccharum-dominant (all size classes), with Populus tremuloides (infrequent), Betula papyrifera (rare), & Tilia americana (rare) in the canopy, P. tremuloides & Abies balsamea in the understory, & a sward of Carex pensylvanica dominating the groundlayer; assoc.: Abies balsamea seedlings, Aralia nudicaulis (abundant), Osmorhiza claytonii (common), Sanguinaria canadensis (frequent), & Viola pubescens var. scabriusculum (frequent). Very SE edge of SNA adj. county forest land, access via private field lane and logging tracks. 42 vasc.pl. spp. listed within a 20-yd. radius. Hand-held GPS unit gave elev. = 1680 ft., Pickerel quad topo map, 1660 ft.
