Habitat: Thicket-filled Juniperus virginiana woods (with Populus tremuloides & dwarfed Quercus macrocarpa) developed on flat dolomite pavement; soil reddish, silty clayey loam, very thin; dry, well-drained habitat. Assoc.: Carex pensylvanica-abundant, Cornus racemosa, Juniperus communis-abundant, Prunus virginiana, Smilacina stellata, and Viburnum rafinesquianum-abundant. Occasional, mostly as seedlings; semi-open spots.
