Habitat: Exquisite, long-ago re-created, wet-mesic prairie with some mesic prairie and fen spp. Assoc.: Agrostis gigantea (abundant), Allium cernuum, Juncus dudleyi, Hypericum kalmianum, Pycnanthemum virginianum, Prunella vulgaris, Salix discolor, Silphium laciniatum, S. terebinthinaceum, Sporobolus heterolepis, & Tradescantia ohiensis. Typical E. compressa: rhizomes ca. 2 mm in diam. at internodes; lf-sheaths without a tooth; scales deeply bifid. Immediately adjacent boardwalk 1/4--1/3 of the way down from the beginning.
