Habitat: Lovely 18-acre, dry-mesic to mesic prairie remnant. Dry-mesic prairie on lower-middle slope of W-facing ridge, surrounded by mostly open agricultural land; Dodgeville silt loam soil. Colony partly overtaken by Zanthoxylum americanum thicket, partly extending several yds. onto open prairie, where assoc. with Amorpha canescens, Cornus racemosa, Dodecatheon meadia (abundant), Eryngium yuccifolium, Hypoxis hirsuta, Lithospermum canescens, Monarda fistulosa, Silphium integrifolium, S. laciniatum, and Toxicodendron rydbergii (abundant).
