Habitat: Found N of a leatherleaf bog on a gravel hill. Dry gravel steep S-facing slope. Soil rocky, limy, and in full sun. Associates include Anemone patens, Carex abdita, Asclepias verticillata, Bouteloua curtipendula, Solidago missouriensis, Poa pratensis, Arenaria stricta, Panicum perlongum, Verbena hastata, Lithospermum incisum, Viola pedata, Geum triflorum, Schizachyrium scoparium, Andropogon gerardii, Sporobolus heterolepis.
