Habitat: Sand prairie opening in Quercus velutina savanna. Gentle slope supporting overlapping large clones of Rubus flagellaris complex, Rhus Xpulvinata, Aster dumosus, and naturalized Hieracium sp., as well as Aristida basiramea, Aster oolentangiensis, Aster pilosus, Aster sagittifolius (abundant), Cornus racemosa, Eragrostis spectabilis, Lespedeza capitata, Panicum capillare, Solidago nemoralis. No basal rosettes (at least at this season); stems arising singly from rhizomes; rays white and disk (permanently) yellow, whole head fading brown.
