Habitat: Moderately steep, S-facing slope; thin rocky soil (weathered dolomite chert). Assoc.: Anemone virginiana, Carya cordiformis, Eupatorium rugosum, Galium boreale, Juglans nigra, Phryma leptostachya, Quercus alba, Rubus occidentalis, Symphyotrichum shortii, Ulmus americana, Zanthoxylum americanum. 30 stems in an area ca. 20 ft. across.
