Habitat: Gravelly edge of roadbed. Medium-good stand of dry prairie on undulating ground. Waukesha sandy loam, the surface layer here is sandy, acidic. Immediate associates of No. 8684: Andropogon scoparius, Aristida basiramea, Silene sp., Melilotus alba, Helianthemum bicknellii, Ambrosia artmeisiifolia, Centaurea maculosa, Solidago nemoralis.
