Habitat: Steep open W-facing sandy prairie, on talus of sandstone cliff (with large clumps of Juniperus communis var. depressa, J. virginiana, dominated by Bouteloua curtipendula, B. hirsuta, Sporobolus asper, also Scutellaria leonardi, Arabis lyrata, Monarda punctata. (very dry).
