Georeference Remarks: Latitude/Longitude was derived from the Township, Range, Section location. This causes an imprecision.
Habitat: Good quality stand of swamp conifer forest (Larix laricina--Pciea mariana, latter at its S-most limit in Wis) with many bog shrubs (Aronia, Ilex, Alnus, Ericaceae,) and acid bog plants (orchids, sedges, Smilacina trifolia, Drosera rotundifolia); Sphagnum capillifolium the ground cover dominant. Appears like a N bog in a relatively S location. Avg. tree size 1-5" dbh. Additional habitat information for Cochrane & Cochrane 8794, 8795: the tamarack swamp in this particular area very wet and mossy but with scarcely any Sphagnum and no Ericaceae. It Includes species not seen in the contiguous scientific area to the south, such as Mitella nuda, Mitchella repens, Prunella vulgaris, Helianthus sp., Thuja occidentalis, and Juniperus communis. The Mitchella was growing on a mound of organic debris over tree bases with Coptis trifolia spp. groenlandica, Prunella vulgaris, Galium triflorum, and Fragaria virginiana. Very rare.
