Habitat: Rich to intermediate, wet fen mats bordering two bog lakes, grading to mixed conifer swamp of tamarack, black spruce, cedar, fir, and alder. C. livida was found primarily on the open fen mats and less so in the transition zones between fen mat and conifer swamp. Associated species many and include such rarities as Drosera linearis, Platanthera dilatata, Triglochin maritimum, Arethusa bulbosa, and Epilobium strictum. Carex tenuiflora and Cypripedium reginae are found just off the floating mat under semi-open stunted tamarack/fir/cedar. Other associates include Scirpus hudsonianus, Iris versicolor, Menyanthes, Sarracenia, Calopogon, Pogonia, Potentilla palustris, Drosera rotundifolia, D. intermedia, Scheuchzeria, Utricularia cornuta, Thelypteris palustris, Equisetum fluviatile, Liparis loeselii, Platanthera lacera, Andromeda, Ledum, Chamaedaphne, Vaccinium oxycoccos, Rhynchospora alba, Dulchium, several Carex species, and sphagnum. Hundreds of culms; no accurate count possible. It was included in a rare plant survey of selected State Trust lands.
