Habitat:
Growing in a perched, seepage hardwood swamp with a mixed canopy of Fraxinus nigra, Betula alleghaniensis, and Abies balsamea. Occurs on tussocks of Carex bromoides at the downstream end of the swamp where it constricts. About 70% canopy cover of black ash and yellow birch (10 to 20 cm dbh) and quite open below. Other associates: Impatiens capensis, Caltha palustris, Ribes americanum, Saxifraga pensylvanica, Onoclea sensibils, and Laportea canadensis. Less than 20 plants seen. None found along larger creek.
