Habitat: Growing in oak opening at the base of Quercus alba which is the dominant tree of the canopy. Other associates include Ranunculus fasicularis, Dodecantheon meadia, Smilacina racemosa, Galium borale, Fragaria virginiana, Carex pensylvanica, Taraxacum officinale, Achillea millefolium, Erigeron pulchellus, Antennaria plantaginifolia, Aster azureus, Viola papillionacea, Solidago speciosa, Desmodium canadense, Sisyrinchium albidium, young Prunus serotina.
