Habitat: Southern mesic forest (Acer saccharum dominant, Tilia americana subdominant, with Ostrya virginiana, Betula papyrifera, Quercus alba, Juniperus virginiana); steep N-facing slope, muddy, mossy, slightly disturbed ground; well drained, greyish, rather sandy, fine silty loam. Additional field notes for Cochrane & Cochrane 9010-9013: Assoc.: Equisetum hymale, Carex pensylvanica, C. backii, C. sprengelii, Anemone quiquifolia, Aquilegia canadensis, Hepatica acutiloba, Prunus serotina & Tilia americana seedlings, Galium aparine, G. concinnum. Culms erect to ascending, yellow-green.
