Habitat:
Deciduous woods and thickets of several kinds, usually dry but occasionally with moist spots or stands, on rocky hillsides and summit. In cracks among big boulders in rocky opening on very top of "mountain." Assoc.: Panicum depauperatum (det. Freckmann), Amelanchier sanguinea, Diervilla lonicera, Rhus glabra, & R. Xboreale.
