Habitat: Rotting moss-covered logs and intermittent pools; uneven floor of Thuja occidentalis swamp, with Acer rubrum, Betula alleghaniensis, B. papyurifera & Abies balsamea. Ground layer Carex dominated, with Lycopodium obscurum v. dendroideum, L. annotinum, Dryopteris spinulosa, s.l., Carex brunnescens, C. trisperma, C. crinita v. crinita, C. intumescens, C. stipata, C. projecta, Clintonia borealis, Trientalis borealis, Petasites frigidus. Rooted in sphagnum.
