Habitat:
Edges of shallow, intermittently swampy depression in Acer saccharum-Quercus borealis forest, with Ulmus rubra, Ostrya virginiana. Soil: wet, black silty clay loam. Assoc. carices: deweyana, digitalis, hirtifolia, pensylvanica, sparganioides, +/- also amphibola. Additional Assoc. for 7490-7494: Polygonatum biflorum, Smilacina racemosa, Smilax illinoense, Actaea pachypoda, Ranuculus septentrionalis, R. recurvatus, Thalictrum dioicum, Geum sp., Prunus virginiana, Impatiens capensis, Scrophularia lanceolata, Galium triflorum. No ferns present. Very common or abundant, 2nd in frequency here only to Carex hirtifolia. In dense, small tussocks.
