Habitat: Conifer swamp on deep peat deposit; Thuja occidentalis dominant with ample Betula papyrifera, some Larix laricina, Picea mariana (only ca. 10 trees). Additional species for Cochrane, et al. 6451: Tree species--Ulmus americana, Acer rubrum, Populus grandidentata, Fraxinus nigra (wet margins near alder thickets), Acer saccharum (margins towards uplands). Groundlayer species--Lyco podium lucidulum-, Botrychium virginianum, Osmunda cinnamomea, O. regalis v. spectabilis, Adiantum pedatum, Athyrium thelypteroides, A. filix-femina v. michaux+,Thelypteris phegopteris, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Dryopteris spinulosa+, Juniperus communis-, Milium effusum v. cisatlanticum-, Carex rosea, C. leptalea, C. peckii, Arisaema triphyllum, Symplocarpus foetidus (wet margins near alder thickets), Maianthemum canadense, Iris versicolor, Cypripedium calceolus v. parviflorum-, Alnus rugosa (wet margins, esp. along drainage ditch & small streams), Laportea canadensis+, Actaea rubra, Coptis trifolia v. groenlandica, Caltha palustris, Rancunculus recurvatus, Hepatica acutiloba, Saxifraga pensylvanica, Mitella nuda, Ribes spp., Geum sp., Rubus pubescens+, Sorbus decora-, Rubus venix- (one plant), Celastrus scandens- (one planf), Impatiens capensis+, Rhamnus catharticus, Parthenocissus inserta, Viola spp., Aralia nudicaulis, Osmorhiza claytonii, Cornus alternifolia, C, stolonifera (wet margins near alder thickets), Trientalis borealis, Solanum dulcamara, Galium triflorum, G. asprellum, Sambucus canadensis, Lonicera oblongifolia- (one plant). + = prevalent; - = rare.
