Habitat: Northern mesic forest (Acer saccharum (1 dom.)-Betula papyrifera (2 dom.), with (in order of decreasing frequency) Quercus borealis, Fagus grandifolia, & Tilia americana. Forest understory on top of bluff. Assoc. species for Cochrane & Cochrane 11124-11137: Oryzopsis asperifolia, Poa saltuensis, Carex arctata, C. communis, C. convoluta, C. deweyana, C. laxiflora, Polygonatum biflorum, Smilacina racemosa, Trillium grandiflorum, Hepatica acutiloba, Anemone quinquifolia v. interior, Ribes cynosbati, Viola pubescens v. pubescens, Cornus rugosa. This clump consisting of: overwintered, dark green-hard-textured leaves (11 in number); new, wide-leaved, yellow-green-soft-textured shoots (5), and blue-green-soft-textured culms of the season (9).
