Habitat: Wet flat peaty depression (acidic swale) between two beach ridges, resembling a semi-open bog. Assoc. species for Cochrane 11207-11216: Dominants are Picea mariana (1-dom.) & Larix laricina (2-dom.), with Pinus banksiana (3-dom.) & P. strobus (4-dom.) important trees; dominants in the stroied shrub layer are Nemopanthus mucronatus & Chamaedaphne calyculata, with Rubus setosus, s.l., frequent; sphagnum moss & Rhynchospora fusca dominate the ground layer, with Calopogon pulchellus common. Flora includes Osmunda cinnamomea, Panicum acuminatum var. fasciculatum (det. Freckmann), C. oligosperma, C. lasiocarpa, C. cephalantha, Iris versicolor, Drosera intermedia, D. rotundifolia, Acer rubrum seedlings, Triadenum fraseri, Andromeda glaucophylla, Vaccinium macrocarpon, V. angustifolia.
