Habitat:
Found N of a leatherleaf bog, on a gravel hill. Growing on gravelly steep S-facing slope in thin soil and full sun along with some dry prairie species. Associates include: Anemone patens, Asclepias verticillata, Bouteloua curtipendula, Solidago missouriensis var. fascicularis, Arenaria stricta, Panicum perlongum, Erigeron strigosus, Melilotus alba, Andropogon scoparius, Sporobolus heterolepis, Verbena hastata, Anemone cylindrica, Antennaria plantaginifolia.
