Habitat: Edges of shallow, intermittently swampy depression in Acer saccharum-Quercus borealis forest, with Ulmus rubra & Ostrya virginiana. Soil: wet, black silty clay loam. Assoc. carices: convoluta, deweyana, digitalis, pensylvanica, rosea, sparganioides, more or less also amphibola var. turgida. Additional Assoc.: Arisaema triphyllum, Smilacina racemosa, Actaea pachypoda, Ranunculus abortivus, R. recurvatus, Parthenocissus vitacea, Impatiens capensis, Tilia americana saplings, Heracleum lanatum, Zizia aurea, Fraxinus pennsylvanica seedlings, Hydrophyllum virginianum, Galium triflorum, Viburnum lentago. No ferns present. Tufts loose; lvs pale, soft. Abundant.
