Habitat: Fine stand of upland hardwoods on bumpy-hilly rolling glacial topography; Miami loam soil (10 in. gray-brown loam on top of fine clay loam). Acer saccharum - Fagus grandifolia with Tsuga canadensis, also Tilia americana, Ostrya virginiana & Prunus serotina. Assoc. sedges include Carex convoluta, C. deweyana, C. laxiflora and C. plantaginea. Assoc. for Cochrane & Cochrane 6406-6446: Adiantum pedatum, Athyrium felix-femina var. michauxii, Botrychium virgininianum, Osmunda claytoniana, Polystichum acrostichoides, Oryzopsis aperifolia, Carex pensylvanica, Allium tricoccum, Smilacina racemosa, Maianthemum, canadense, Polygonatum pubescens, Trillium grandiflorum, Cypripedium pubescens, Dicentra cucullaria, Sanquinaria candensis, Anemone quinquefolia, Hepatica acutiloba, Thalictrum dioicum, Claytonia virginica, Caulophyllum thalictroides, Popdophyllum peltatum, Actaea pachypoda, Mitella diphylla, Ribes cynosbati, Prunus virginiana, Geranium sp., Impatiens sp., Viola canadensis, [see label] Cespitose, the more/less dense culms very lax.; clumps 4.5 ft. across.
