Habitat: Low prairie on a broad lowland (old bed of Glacial Lake Scuppernong) with such wet prairie and fen species as Arnoglossum plantagineum, Calamagrostis canadensis, Liatris spicata, Parnassia glauca, Pentaphylloides floribunda, Solidago ohioensis, Valeriana edulis, etc. Perhaps better treated at specific rank, as S. leonardii.
