Habitat: Long-fallow field on slightly moist loamy sand, with scattered Juniperus virginiana, abundant Spiraea tomentosa. Additional Assoc. for Cochrane & Cochrane 6614-6619: Polytrichum sp., Carex debilis var. rudgei, Habenaria lacera, Rumex acetosella, Potentilla simplex, Verbena stricta, Achillea millefolium, Eupatorium perfoliatum, Solidago canadensis. Cespitose, with widely spreading culms in huge clumps.
