Georeference Remarks: Latitude/Longitude was derived from the Township, Range, Section location. This causes an imprecision.

Habitat: Undulating terrain near small stream course, originally high lime prairie on Dodgeville Silt Loam soil (deep dark brown silt loam surface soil and silt loam subsoil overlying dolomite). Actively grazed, the flora a mixture of naturalized exotics and prairie natives: Antennaria neglecta, Cirsium hillii (200 plants), Erigeron strigosus, Daucus carota, Medicago lupulina, Phleum pratense, Triflorum pratense, Solidago rigida, S. speciosa, Panicum praecocius, & Verbena stricta were the closest associates of this Carex sp. (the total flora is suprisingly rich). These upland prairie pastures or recently relieved-of-grazing prairies are full of rare animals (regalfritillaris, grassland birds) and plants (Cacalia plantaginea, Cirsium hillii, Echinacea pallida, Onosmodium molle, Lespedeza leptostachya, Psoralea esculenta, Parthenium integrifolium). A.H. Williams is convinced that hill's thistle has been lost and false gromwell is being lost due to lack of grazing.
