Habitat: Edges of shallow, intermittently swampy depression in Acer saccharum-Quercus borealis forest, with Ulmus rubra & Ostrya virginiana. Soil: wet, black silty clay loam. Assoc. carices: convoluta, digitalis, hirtifolia, pensylvanica, spaganioides, also amphibola v. turgida. Polygonatum biflorum, Smilacina racemosa, Smilax illinoense, Actaea pachypoda, Ranunculus septentrionalis, R. recurvatus, Thalictrum dioicum, Geum sp., Prunus virginiana, Impatiens capensis, Scophularia lanceolata, Galium triflorum. No ferns present. Frequent. Cespitose; lax, the soft leaves pale.
