Habitat:
Moderately grazed, lowest (bottom) edge of wooded slope of bluff, where it meets upper edge of upper river terrace; upslope from fenceline. Assoc.: Aster laevis, A. oolentangiensis, A. pilosus, Coreopsis palmata, Daucus carota, Geum triflorum, Leucanthemum vulgare, Medicago lupulina, Monarda fistulosa, Oenothera clelandii, O. cf. biennis, Poa compressa, P. pratensis, Potentilla recta, Packera paupercula, Viola pedata. Cor. dark yellow; achenes blackish, pappus white. Habitat probably originally prairie rather than forest, the adjacent oaks being large and stumps absent, but grazing and overhead powerline are factors keeping it open.
