Habitat: Good quality stand of upland hardwoods on gentle S-facing slope (Acer saccharum dominant, w/ Ulmus americana, Juglans nigra, Fraxinus americana, Quercus borealis, Ostrya virginiana); assoc. = Carex blanda, Arisaema triphyllum, Podophyllum peltatum, Smilacina racemosa, Ribes cynosbati, Geum canadense, Geranium maculatum, Osmorhiza longistylis, Galium aparine. Densely cespitose, 3 clumps with 2, 11 & 50 culms; culms erect (small clumps) to wide-spreading (large clumps); clumps up to 9dm across. Infrequent.
