Habitat: Fine if smallish stand of upland hardwoods on relatively deep soil (Miami Silt Loam). Acer saccharum dom., Fagus grandifolia subdom., w/ Tilia americana, also Ostrya virginiana, Prunus serotina, and, in one wetter area, Tsuga canadensis. Assoc.: Adiantum oedatum, Athyrium filix-femina, Botrychium virginianum, Cystopteris bulbifera, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Matteucia struthiopteris var. pensylvanica, Polystichum acrostichoides, Carex albursina, C. hitchcockiana, C. laxiflora, C. pensylvanica (dominant in ground layer in N2), C. pedunculata, C. convoluta, C. sparganioides, Arisaema triphyllum, Sanguinaria canadensis, Allium tricoccum, Erythronium sp. (abundant on mounds), Polygonatum pubescens, [see label for more]
