Habitat: Fine "relict" stand of Tsuga canadensis and Betula alleghaniensis with Acer saccharum and Tilia americana. Steep, rocky N-facing slopes of Cambrian sandstone bluff with low cliffs, ledges, and very steeply slanting ss walls. Moister middle and lower slopes: Taxus canadensis, Athyrium thelypteroides, Dryopteris austriaca intermedia, Onoclea sensibilis, Carex albursina, Pilea sp., Laportea canadensis, Asarum canadense, Actaea rubra, Osmorhiza claytonii, Adoxa moschat. Shallow mineral soil with pH = 5.2.
