Habitat: Steep wooded east-facing slope, mesic. Trees include Acer saccharum, Tilia americana, Carpinus caroliniana, Ostrya virginiana, Pinus strobus. Found in 2 sq-m. plots with Anemone acutiloba, Impatiens pallida, Allium tricoccum, Acer saccharum, Smilacina racemosa, Geranium maculatum, Laportea canadensis, Osmorhiza claytoni, Hydrophyllum virginianum, Phlox divaricata, Cryptotaenia canadensis, Viola pubescens, Mitella diphylla, Galium concinuum, Carpinus caroliniana, Carex pedunculata, Sanguinaria canadensis, Sanicula marilandica, Uvularia grandiflora. Pseudoculms with red bases.
