Habitat: On logged ridgetop. Herbs include Desmodium cuspidatum, D. glutinosum, Aster macrophyllus, Elymus villosus, Sanicula gregaria, Pteridium aquilinum, Geranium maculatum, Apocynum androsaemifolium (under Quercus rubra, Acer saccharum, Tilia americana); Solidago ulmifolia, Sanicula marilandica, Triosteum perfoliatum (under Populus tremuloides); Festuca subverticillata, Helianthus strumosus, Vitis aestivalis, Bromus pubescens in clear-cut. Several of these are uncollected from the county. Narrow, wooded east-west linear ridge, 250 ft. high. Unusual alternate stem leaves, scratchy flowering stem.
