Habitat:
Old lowland field grown up to young Ulmus (rubra?)-Juglans cinerea (trees all dead or dying) woodland; assoc.: Circaea lutetiana ssp. canadensis, Cryptotaenia candensis, Geum canadense, Laportea canadensis, Teucrium canadense, and Scrophularia lanceolata. Semi-open moist ground, transition zone between mesic forest on slope at base of sandstone cliff and large seepage spot with Symplocarpus foetidus in the heart of the draw. Locally abundant. Culms spreading horizontally in all directions, forming clumps 4.3 dm (of short green leafy shoots) or 8.9--14.0 dm (with long culms) across.
